Body language is very important when interacting with others – whether colleagues or potential clients. What is body language - the gestures, movements, & mannerisms by which a person communicates with others, these are verbal and nonverbal. Some of these include:

Head movements: Tilting your head upwards & forwards may suggest superiority and can look arrogant. Nodding your head slowly shows you are paying attention, while faster nods indicates you agree with what the prospect is saying.
Facial gestures: People believe the look on your face. Stay in control of your face. Engaged eyes and relaxed mouth are safe and inviting open expressions.
Posture: Avoid negative postures such as folded arms or crossed legs. Rather mirror the prospect’s or strike a balance between subtle movements & a ‘stiff’ posture
Eye contact: Your eyes should send the same message as the rest of your body. Avoid negative actions such as looking away, glancing sideways. Raising your eyebrows suggest agreement or interest.
Space: Remember to respect personal space. Be careful – hand gestures and movements can have cultural meaning
A clean, neat appearance will also positively influence the conversation as the prospect will feel more at ease.
